Strawberry-Scented Rice

The filler for our Valentine's sensory bin is strawberry scented rice.  We talked about how to color rice for sensory play in our previous post Ice Cream Dough and Sprinkles.  This month we used a different method that not only colored the rice but left it smelling wonderful!!!

You will need; rice, strawberry kool-aid, water, Ziploc bag and red food coloring (optional).
Pour the uncooked rice into the Ziploc bag, add a couple of tbs of water and the kool-aid (we used two packs of kool-aid for a large bag of rice).  Shake well!!! At this point if you do not like the color of the rice you can add in a little food coloring and continue shaking.  We did NOT, I thought the different shades of rice created from just the kool-aid was perfect for Valentine's Day!!

Remember to keep a eye out in this post and the next two for a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card!!  Also check back in at the end of the month for more details regarding sensory bins in our post "A Years' Worth of Sensory Play".
