Seed Starting Book Review

I always let the boys start the seeds for our family garden each year, it’s something neat for them to do and some of the plants do much better if you start them indoors first.  I also grow my own herbs each year.  We love doing it but honestly we’ve never really had a clue what we were doing.  It’s just kind of hit and miss experiment, some seeds worked and some didn’t.

When I was given the chance to review "Seed Starting-The First Step to Gardening" by Gary Emmett I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I certainly didn’t expect to find out that I had been doing just about everything WRONG (but I was).  His book is so easy to understand, if you are a beginner gardener or even if you’ve been doing this for a few years there is a tip in this book somewhere for you.  I loved that I could read the book without having to stop and look up technical wording I didn’t understand.  It flowed together smoothly which I greatly appreciated.  I am an avid reader but let’s face it we are reading about seeds here, however this book keeps it so simple and smooth that you will have no problem flipping to the next page.  I love the fact that Gary doesn’t waste words; he gets the important stuff in there effectively and then quickly moves you on to the next need to know instruction.

I can’t wait to utilize all the helpful information I found in this book.  The boys will be so excited if our seed starting is more successful and I definitely expect it to be with all the specifics I now know and understand.  If you are planning on doing a garden for the first time this year or even the second or third year then you must check out this book.  I promise you won’t regret it!!  It’s only $2.99 so you can’t beat the price.

  2. Isn't it funny that something seemingly so simple as growing a few seeds can be done "wrong"? So glad you've learned some new things to help you and your boys start seeds more effectively this year! What fun!

  3. You'll have to do a post after you get your garden crop this year - I'd love to hear how it turns out! and if his tips and tricks work for you and the boys :)
