We finished our Marsupial/Pocket Mom Unit Study. We spent around two weeks on this and could of probably spent longer but they boys like to move onto new topics:-) By the time we had finished we had studied the; kangaroo, koala, Tasmanian devil, bilby, opossum, wallaby, wombat, numbat, and I'm sure I am forgetting a few more but I can't think of them right now. Each animal is covered in the Simple Schooling Pocket Mom online interactive unit study http://thesimplehomeschool.com/, and in their printable unit study available at Currclick http://www.currclick.com/product/43495/Simple-Schooling-Pocket-Moms%3A-Amazing-Marsupials?it=1. I know you are probably tired of hearing me brag about Simple Schooling but we love them!! Please check them out.
Each day we studied one animal. We would start by listening and participating in the online unit then do some worksheets and library books. After that we would work on our reading and Math. This was the first two weeks I have incorporated Time 4 Learning into our daily routine and Colton loves it. To wrap up each day or at least every other day we would pick a activity. If you haven't done Unit Studies before give them a try. They are tons of fun and you can create your own for free or purchase some already made for you. I use both. Most of them need for you to add your own Math and Language in so make sure you are prepared for that.
I did earlier blog posts for all but one of the activities we completed during this Unit Koala Cut and Paste Activity, Kangaroo Dot Patterns, and Art Lessons (shapes). We completed one additional activity that I did not blog about or get photos of, I based it off of the activity from the following link http://pinterest.com/pin/180707003769956604/ . We used a finger painting technique on it.
I used lots of free worksheets from online to complete our unit along with another free marsupials unit study found at www.schoolexpress.com.
All of our activites and some of our printables were found via Pinterest so remember to check them out. I do have a board just for homeschool and educational resources so if you want click at the top of my blog and come follow me, I would love to have you:-) Here are the marsupial pins; marsupial poster, opossum printable, koala craft, koala craft 2, and a kangaroo activity.
One of the boys' favorite shows right now is Wild Kratts so of course we utilized them it just so happens they have a couple of great episodes regarding marsupials. Check them out on PBS kids.
I hope you enjoy the resources for this unit study as much as we enjoyed completing it, remember to check out you local library for tons of helpful marsupial books:-)
Sounded like fun! My son loves anything to do with animals, and he is obsessed with Wild Kratts right now. I am hopping by from Mosaic Reviews to say HI and to follow your blog.
